What to Expect

Starting therapy can feel uncertain. You don’t need to prepare anything or have the “right” words — we begin with whatever is happening for you now.
This page outlines what the process looks like so you know what to expect before getting in touch.

The First Contact

You’re welcome to reach out by message, email or the website form.
I offer a free 20-minute consultation, where we briefly talk about:

  • What’s been troubling you

  • What you’re hoping for from therapy

  • Whether you prefer online or in-person sessions

  • Any questions you may have

This conversation is relaxed and informal. Its purpose is simply to get a sense of whether working together feels right.
There is no pressure to commit.

Your First Full Session

A full session lasts 50 minutes.
You don’t need to bring anything or tell your story in a particular order. Most people arrive feeling unsure where to begin — that’s completely normal.

We usually start with:

  • What’s bringing you to therapy now

  • What you’re feeling day-to-day

  • Any important experiences or patterns you’ve noticed

  • What you would like to focus on

My role is not to judge or diagnose you, but to help you understand your emotional world and find a way forward that feels genuine and manageable.

How We Work Together

I take an integrative approach, meaning I draw from different therapeutic models depending on your needs.
Some sessions involve exploring feelings and internal conflicts; others focus on specific events or relationships. Sometimes the work is slow and reflective, and other times it moves more directly to the heart of what’s troubling you.

Common themes we might explore include:

  • Anxiety, stress and overwhelm

  • Grief or long-standing loss

  • Relationship patterns and emotional dynamics

  • Past experiences that continue to affect you

  • Low self-esteem or a harsh inner critic

  • Feeling stuck, empty or disconnected

You don’t need to know what you need — we figure it out together as the work unfolds.

Frequency and Length of Therapy

Most people begin with weekly sessions, as this creates momentum and consistency.
Some choose fortnightly sessions depending on circumstances, and others reduce frequency later on as things improve.

There is no fixed number of sessions. Therapy can be short-term or open-ended — we review it together as we go.

You are free to pause or end therapy at any time.

Online or In-Person

I offer:

Online therapy via Google Meet
In-person therapy in Croxley Green (WD3 3EN) and

Watford (WD19 4JN)

Feeling Anxious About Starting?

Many people worry about saying too much, not knowing what to say, becoming emotional or feeling judged.
These are normal concerns, and part of our work is creating a space where you can speak at your own pace and explore what matters without pressure.

Therapy isn’t about performing. It’s about being honest, even if that honesty starts with “I don’t know where to begin.”
